DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
In John 8, we read of the powerful incident of the woman caught in adultery. Early in the morning the scribes brought a woman to him who was caught in the act of adultery. They had proof and it was sure that she was guilty. She had nothing to defend herself with because in her heart she knew she was wrong. In the whole incident we see a very silent woman apart from three words – ‘No one sir’ in v.11. She had nothing to say because she had no defense. With all those people around her with stones and dragged in front of the hundreds gathered there, this woman would have felt stripped of all dignity and on the point of death. Defenseless and alone she did not stand a chance. But without speaking much, without a big and lengthy teaching, the Lord defended the ‘unworthy’ but defenseless woman with the words “Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw the stone at her” John 8:7.
She might have been unworthy but the Lord saw her defenseless. The Lord stands up for those who feel defenseless irrespective of if they are worthy of it or no. Are you feeling defenseless today? Do you feel like the world is holding a stone at you in all directions to put you down? Do you feel stripped of all dignity? Then be assured that your God who sees you defenseless will rise to defend you. “Give justice to the weak and the orphan; maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” (Ps 82:3-4). His intervention might not seem dramatic but even with just a few words He assures you that you are protected. “Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6). For all their faithlessness and ingratitude to the God who brought them out of the land of slavery, Israel was still protected by God when He saw them defenseless. He who sees you defenseless will not close His eyes upon you. “The Lord is faithful, He will strengthen you and guard you” (2 Thessalonians 3:3).
Today as you might stand alone and defenseless in your situations, know He is watching and is all ready to defend. Be submissive to His mode of defense. It might not impress you but it will surely effectively protect you. “Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me.” (Ps 59:1)
